  • Explore assessment and management of mental health conditions that are complicated by physical health concerns
  • Integrate information from clinical guidelines to effectively prioritize care issues
  • Discuss prescribing challenges and optimal medication management for patients with co-occurring mental and physical health conditions
  • Assist patients who are experiencing functional impairment due to co-occurring mental and physical health concerns

What Will I Be Learning?

Sample Topics from the ECHO CPM Curriculum:

  1. Approaches to co-occurring cardiovascular disease and mood disorders.
  2. Endocrine-related disorders and mental health conditions.
  3. Management of medically unexplained symptoms & somatization.
  4. Enhancing treatment adherence for patients with complex conditions.
  5. Strategies for engaging patients with complex physical and mental health conditions.
  6. Improving function when patients have refractory or ongoing symptoms.
  7. Functional neurological symptoms and dizziness.
What is the Structure of a Session?

Each session consists of:

  • Introductions and announcements
  • A 20-minute presentation on a given topic
  • 55 minutes of case-based learning, where healthcare providers (Spokes) present de-identified cases to the Community of Practice and receive recommendations from both the specialist Hub team and other community partner Spokes. All teach, all learn.
What is the Commitment?

  • Attend weekly 1.25-hour sessions
  • Present an anonymized client case to the group during the cycle.
  • Participate in evaluation activities (e.g., surveys, focus groups).

What is the Cost?

All of our sessions are free, but require a commitment to actively engage in the peer learning community by sharing experience and presenting cases.

What Equipment is Needed?

ECHO Ontario at CAMH and UofT uses an internet-based video technology called Zoom. Participants can connect to the video sessions through their phone, tablet, laptop, or a computer with a webcam. Technical support is provided.

Is This Only for Physicians?

Any healthcare professional interested in engaging around a topic, sharing their experience, and learning from their peers can attend ECHO sessions. We welcome physicians, nurses, psychologists, counselors, social workers, healthcare administrators, community health workers, pharmacists, and public health practitioners. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact us.

Will My Case Presentation Be Confidential?

Only non-identifiable information is shared during the sessions. Our sessions are PHIPA compliant and a secure place to share information.

Can My Client Make an Appointment at ECHO?

Clients do not attend and are not seen during Project ECHO sessions. Instead, these sessions facilitate a way in which community providers connect to specialists and other community partners who help co-manage patients.
